How many private schools are there in Montréal?

Clearway Kids lists 123 private school campuses in the City of Montréal that offer preschool, primary or secondary education, from the Ministère de l'Éducation's registry (data as of March 3, 2026). 83 offer secondary, 74 primary and 63 preschool; many offer more than one level. Campuses that offer only vocational or adult training aren't listed.

In what language do Montréal private schools teach?

According to the registry, 80 teach in French, 32 in English and 11 in both French and English. Eligibility rules apply to English instruction in Québec; see the next question.

Can my child go to an English-language school in Québec?

In Québec, preschool, primary and secondary instruction is in French, with exceptions set out in the Charter of the French language. How much is private school tuition?

Each school sets its own tuition, and it isn't in the government registry. A listing shows tuition once the school adds it; until then you'll see "Not reported". Ask the school about other fees too, such as registration, uniforms or transportation.

How do private school admissions work?

Each school sets its own admission process and dates, which may include open houses, an application file or an entrance exam. Check the school's website or call its admissions office; dates can change from year to year.

Are these schools government-funded?

We don't show funding status, because the registry data we use doesn't include it. Ask the school directly.
